Year 3

Your child has taken the significant step from infants to primary school and into the first year of Learning Stage 2.

National test

This is the first year your child sits for the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) test held in May. There are four tests covering numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar.

You will receive a report of your child's achievement in the tests. The results tell you how your child is progressing in these areas and can guide the learning support you give your child at home.

Year 3 Authors (Term 1, 2014)

Year 3 has been learning to create characters and write narratives that are entertaining and exciting. In the story ‘Christina and the Dragon' the class was given an adapted orientation or beginning from one of Pamela Allen's books, ‘Black Dog'. The children developed their own character, Dragon, by listing descriptive adjectives and adverbs to build his appearance, personality and behaviour.

3S Students

Christina and Dragon were then taken on amazing adventures and needed to get themselves out of many sticky or dangerous situations. Year 3 did a great job developing a character and writing about its adventures in well structured narratives.
